Registration will start on Monday for the upcoming school year. If you see people around the front office, please help them feel welcomed. We will have them registering in room #15, right by the office. If someones asks, you can direct them to that room.
Last week of summer school! There are no attendance tickets, prizes, or treats. There are some popsicles left over in the freezer. First come first served. Feel free to take some for your class.
We have a collection of hair accessories on the counter in the office. Please look through them and see if any belong to students in your classroom.
Here is a quick list of closing items as you finish the week:
1. Any school supplies that can be reused next year can go in the principal or vice principal office. Anywhere you find a place to put items in those two offices is fine. I'll be spending the next week sorting everything.
2. One table in front of the office will be for collecting the red math and reading intervention kits.
3. One table in front of the office will be for collecting the large clear Investigations math kits that have the manipulatives.
4. The counter in the office will have labels for each of the seven schools. Please put the school copy of each student's report card in the correct pile, and we'll help you alphabetize by grade level. We can help you look up the home school if you aren't sure. One copy of the report card also needs to go home with each student. If a student isn't at school on Wednesday, simply fold and address to the parent/guardian of the student. We can then send them on to the home school to give to the student. Make a separate pile for students going to middle school, and we'll sort those for the correct school.
5. Please check the two refrigerators in the staff room for any food that might be yours. I'll be doing a deep clean after Wednesday.
6. Last recess on Wednesday will be from 1:45-2:15. Second grade is the regular time of 2-2:15 because they are at block.
7. The goal is to leave the classrooms so that the regular classroom teacher walks in and doesn't notice we were even there. Please let me know if we need to replace or fix anything.

If the weather is still rainy, I'll let you know if we have an alternate recess option.
I walked around and have a list of items to fix from the water, but please let me know if you see anything new in the morning. Garbage cans, and plastic tubs, are the best option at this point for the water coming in. The swamp coolers are the big item, with water dripping from those. Maintenance is working hard around the district addressing water issues, so just look at the positive side: it is a great real life science/weather experience for students. :)
Please remind students we will have popsicles on Friday.

We have a large group this summer, and that includes our ELL students. Martha and Rogene have about 80 students on their caseload. What a great experience for both students and staff, to have so many languages and cultures this summer. After the ESL summer school, migrant summer school, and now Title 1 summer school- several students will have had 7 weeks of intervention this summer. We also had the two week enrichment for Harrison students, which will be 9 weeks of intervention. We have several students who have been attending school all summer. On to sno-cones this Friday!

Staff snacks are during recess in the staff room. Thank you kindergarten and first grade for providing for the first Friday!
Here is the plan for attendance prizes:
K/1: Please have students meet in room #2. It is much easier for younger students to be sitting as we do prizes.
2/3: As soon as the last third grade class enters the lunchroom with their lunch, we will start. The quieter students are, the easier it is to hear names.
4/5: As soon as the last fifth grade class enters the lunchroom with their lunch, we will start. The quieter students are, the easier it is to hear names.
We will start Friday fun at 1:15. Please make sure your grade level has divided the time so we have adequate coverage on the playground. We will have popsicles out in the grass in a shady spot under a tree. Please remind students about patience. Everybody will get a popsicle.
Please remind students about picking up their dropped items in the lunchroom. As we have students eating lunch from the summer feeding program, each item is individually wrapped. We have had several wrappers and containers on the floor, and we do not need to create extra work for the custodian.
Have a great weekend!

Breakfast ends at 8:30. If students need breakfast after that time, please send them to the office. Sometimes we have late buses. We can find something for them in the office.
There is water in the staff room, and a few otter pops in the freezer. Feel free to help yourself.
Please talk with students about playground behavior. We have students from different schools, but we all have very similar expectations.
Please remind students that we do have school on Friday. We also will have popsicles.
Friday fun is 1:15-2:15. Each grade divides amongst themselves, about 15 minutes each, so we have adequate coverage on the playground. This also gives you time to prepare and plan for next week.
Please remember to turn in the attendance tickets, for the Friday prizes at lunch.

Thank you for being patient and welcoming to students and families. Everybody has been gracious to take any student who has been assigned to their classroom. Class lists should be pretty well set by this point.
Sometimes we have students who shine a little brighter than others, especially after the first couple days. Email me if you would like me to look in Milepost for any information that would help a student be successful. Sometimes we have behavior plans, 504's, and other helpful notes from the school year that can be continued during summer school.

The summer school registration forms are still being collected. Please help remind your colleagues.
We will be using Imagine Learning with our ESL students, so they can continue what they have been working on during the school year.
Imagine Learning is partnering with Big Brainz. It is a math facts website. We will have it as an option during summer school, for a pilot. This would be great in the classroom as a blended learning option as students rotate through centers, or during your time in the computer lab. Here is the website for you to look at:

The registration form has been updated:
Registration Form
As you might notice, the registration form is different. We still have IRI testing, but we do not have ISAT testing. Teachers usually know who needs to attend, based on assessments and classroom performance. There is a box for all grades K-5 to enter current grades and any important comments and concerns. If you were the receiving teacher, what would you like to know. The more info you provide, the more the summer school teacher can address the specific concerns that a student has.
Here are the IRI numbers for how many qualify, just for K-3rd, based on Fall IRI:
Please consider these items when deciding which students to refer for summer school:
1. Students close to grade level, the bubble students, are perfect candidates.
2. Students who are significant disruptions to the learning in the classroom: probably not the best candidates for summer school. We do not have a behavior para.
3. Students significantly below grade level: probably not the best candidates for summer school, as 4 weeks will probably not be sufficient time for their needs.
4. Resource students are fine if they are close to grade level or speech/language, especially students who may have exited or will be exiting off of an IEP soon.
5. LEP students are perfect, as there will be an ESL teacher.
6. Homeless students are perfect candidates.
7. Students who have taken off and shown significant growth are perfect candidates.

The dates for summer school have been set. Summer school for students will start on Monday July 21st. The last day for students will be Wednesday August 13th. An updated registration form will be posted on the blog by this weekend, so you can start getting signatures during Spring conferences when you meet with families.
